Pasadena Weekly, May 2003

One of the best and most thoughtful rock scribes working, Weed Patch frontman Neal Weiss' discerning taste also imbues his just released debut album. No surprise, his strong suit's writing frequently meaty, sly songs—from sweetly catchy nuggets ("Nothings," "Crash Landing") and rockers ("Sandy Koufax") to quiet ruminations (the wistful "Dreaming My Days Away," "99 Hail Marys") given life by Kingsizemaybe's Gary Eaton, multi-instrumentalist Ben Peeler, Minibar's Sid Jordan and Malcolm Cross, singer Grey DeLisle and especially co-producer Seth Rothschild, who wraps Weiss' melodic indie-pop in shimmering layers of guitars, space and sound effects. Gingersol, Wilco and Sparklehors fans, listen up.
